Changing Your Password in Windows 2000 and XP

You can and should change your password regularly.  Policy states that passwords should be changed every 90 days.
Below is the section of policy that addresses it.
OP-020701 - Information Management / Networks and Microcomputers - Effective Date: 03/23/04

D.     Passwords

User-Identification and passwords should be memorized, written down, placed in a sealed envelope, and placed in a secure locked file cabinet or safe accessible by the supervisor. When passwords are changed, it is the responsibility of the user to change the information in the sealed envelope. Passwords should be at least five characters long and consist of numbers and letters. Passwords should be changed at least every 90 days.

Under no conditions should passwords be written on the back of mouse pads, placed under the telephone, or other easily accessible locations.

**NOTE**

BEFORE MAKING PASSWORD CHANGES - MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE "CAPS LOCK" OFF. PASSWORDS ARE CASE SENSITIVE AND YOU CAN EASILY LOCK YOURSELF OUT OF YOUR COMPUTER BY GOING TOO FAST AND TYPING IN A CAPITOL LETTER, WHEN YOU DIDN'T REALIZE IT.
After you have logged-in to the computer, you can change your password at any time.
You get to the change password area by pressing and holding the "Ctrl" & "Alt" keys, then hitting the "Delete" key.
This brings up the "Windows Security" box. (Figure 1)
